Strong Defense Sends Wreckers to Semifinals

The Staples girls basketball team battled through an early 8–0 deficit and a barrage of South Windsor three-pointers to secure a hard-fought 42–35 victory in the CIAC Division II quarterfinals. Led by Freya Harvey’s 18 points and a strong second-half performance from Chloe Smith, the Wreckers relied on relentless defense, 15 steals, and 16 offensive rebounds to take control in the second half. Key energy from the bench and Riley Caney’s nine rebounds helped Staples grind out the win and advance to the state semifinals.
